How to produce MC events using Funnel
1) Get an input file
Get an input file from one of these sources:
AMADEUS the ZEUS interface to physics generators,
TOZDIS the interface of user supplied events to ZEUS ADAMO files
MOZARTcan be used also to
generate single particles
stage back an old input file.
write a file in the MOZART 'ASCI' format. This
option is not well supported anymore.
Gzip the file to save disk space and to
make easier the network transfer of the files.
Constraints on the SIZE of input files.
2) Choose a funnel version
Choose the best funnel version, funnel configuration and vertex
distribution for your sample from the
funnel versions page.
Then use the painless Funnel Filename
Maker to give to your files the correct name.
It uses ~funnel/bin/dcode.fast to check if the name is correct.
3) Make the request
Put the input files and eventually the log file from the generator
(.zdi) in a directory visible from the ZEUS cluster (not on AFS).
Then ask the MC Representative of your Physics Group to submit your
job to the Physics Group MC Queue.
Try to find her/his name from the
Physics Groups MC pages
or try zeusmc info
4) Check the status of the job
from the Overall status page.
or using zeusmc.
When the job is completed and the output files are on tape and the relevant
informations have been added to the Oracle database its staus is set to OK.
Only at this point the input file can be removed from its location.
To see the status for a single group, or for more details, go
to the production status page.
The available output files can be found from
the Oracle database using /zeus/bin/mcfile or the WWW
interface. Please note this link ONLY works from inside DESY.
If you wish to find out about MC jobs from outside DESY, please use the
alternatives given below.
Alternatively the completed jobs can be searched using 'zeusmc dbase' and
the files available for a single job can be listed using
zeusmc files .
A description of the produced MC events could be found in the
Physics Groups MC pages
The MC files are accessible via
ZARAH.
How to retrieve log files for a job?
The log files from funnel and from the generator are stored on tape with the
output files.
A description of the files produced and saved by funnel can be found
here.
For the generator log files (zdi), select a file using the
ZEUS
Monte Carlo Database, then simply ask the system to stage the
log files with a few mouse clicks. If you are outside DESY, please
use the commands given under the section "Where do I find my MC events ?"
Users can easily see all the core dumps that occured for
their job:
The stack traces from all core dumps of mozart, zgana, zephyr
produced by jobs running at DESY are recorded in, e.g.
~funnel/SAVE_core_where/*/file_name*
Running on the NPCS batch system at KEK
NPCS is a powerful batch system at KEK, it is reccomanded useful the
production of large samples or when the queues for standard funnel are long.
See
here for more information and for instructions on how to
submit to NPCS
