ZEUS Software
General
The ZEUS software is maintained in a central repository under CVS which resides under AFS at DESY. Information on the basic code management strategy (ZSMSM) can be found here. New releases of the whole software chain appear typically 3-4 times per year. Supported platform as of Apr-2008 is DESY ScientificLinux 3 (SL3). Additionally SL4 will be supported since next software release.
The software is managed by the ZEUS code manager. If you wish to submit new code or changes of code for the ZEUS software repository, please make sure to adhere to the code submission rules and contact the ZEUS code manager and the offline coordinator.
Guidelines for submission to the central constants database
(geometry, alignment, calibration etc) can be found here. A preliminary
documentation for the Constants Management Toolkit is available.
New users may be interested in registration procedures.
Reconstruction Software
The ZEUS reconstruction area is managed by the reconstruction coordinator. The experts for the individual software packages used in the reconstruction can be found here.

Data Processing: the ZEUS Reconstruction Factory
The data taken by the ZEUS experiment are processed on a PC farm running Linux as operating system. Reconstruction is performed in a semi-automated way under the ZEUS Reconstruction Factory (ZRF), a framework based on MySQL, PHP4 and Apache with LSF as the underlying batch system. The production system has the flexibility to use also resources of the ZEUS analysis facility (ZARAH) when they are free. After the end of ZEUS data taking period all datasets have been reconstructed and then re-processed with improved calibration constants and reconstruction software. Currently we are preparing for the Grand Reprocessing of the whole HERA-II sample. The goal is to produce uniform, final mini-dst data for the entire HERA-II period.

ZEUS Analysis Facility (ZARAH)
ZARAH is the central ZEUS data analysis facility. It provides the computing infrastructure & support for batch data analysis ("data mining") and the event data storage facilities of the experiment. There is a special ZARAH homepage.
The present ZARAH PC farm consists of 60 dual-processor nodes, where 20 nodes have 2.6 GHz Opteron CPU on a Tyan motherboard, 20 are based on Intel Xeon 3.06 GHz and 20 nodes have Xeon 2.2 GHz, . The LSF batch system integrates this facility with the reconstruction farm. I/O from & to mass storage relies heavily on the dCache system.
Click here for an overview article of the ZARAH
configuration & experience. Also slides from a comprehensive
talk on operation of ZARAH & other offline activities are
available.

ZEUS Analysis
Batch analysis
The recommended framework for analysis is ORANGE.
Other analysis-relevant information can be found in various places: lumi-information, ep_runs list, excluded runs lists, DST bits.

Common ntuples
More documentation on using "Common Ntuple" for analysis can be found
here.
There is a also a ZACON documentation web pages describing various tools which can be helfull.
Interactive Analysis
Final analysis of the ultimately relevant information selected from the
MDSTs in batch analysis is performed, usually on n-tuple formats, on
the
workgroup servers interactively, mainly using PAW & ROOT as tools. Most workgroup servers
run Linux nowadays.
For the immediate user environment, DESY standard desktop PCs are the recommended solution. Please refer to more information onPC Support service (only German)

zesLite
zesLite is a toolkit centered around a tag event database. The system has
recently been reimplemented.
The old ZES service based on Objectivity/DB has been
terminated on 15-Oct-2005.

Event Display (ZeVis)
ZEUS uses a client-server event display named ZeVis, which is based on the Root package.

Monte Carlo
funnel
Since more than 10 years, ZEUS Monte Carlo production, which consists of event generation, detector simulation, trigger simulation and reconstruction, has been performed in a worldwide distributed computing model across many different sites within a framework named funnel. Please see the Funnel home page for details.
MC on grid
November 2004 saw the startup of Grid-based Monte Carlo production for ZEUS, which lead to a considerable increase of capacity. More details on ZEUS Grid.
