        Inclusive D^{*\pm} production in deep inelastic scattering at HERA

                                    Abstract


       Inclusive production of D^{*\pm}(2010) mesons in deep inelastic 
       scattering has been measured using e^-p and e^+p data obtained 
       with the ZEUS detector at HERA using integrated luminosities of 
       17 and 66 pb^{-1}, respectively. The decay channel 
       D^{*+} -> D^0 pi^+ with D^0 -> K^- pi^+ (+c.c.) has been used 
       to identify D^{*\pm} mesons. Differential D^{*\pm} cross sections 
       as functions of Q^2 and Bjorken-x have been measured for 
       Q^2 > 1 GeV^2 and are compared to a next-to-leading-order QCD 
       calculation.
