    Production of the excited charm-strange meson D_{s1}^{\pm}(2536) at HERA.

                                    Abstract


      The production of the excited charm-strange meson D_{s1}^{\pm}(2536)
      has been observed for the first time at HERA with the ZEUS detector 
      using an integrated luminosity of 110 pb^{-1}. The meson has been 
      reconstructed in the D^{*\pm} K_S^0 final state. The fraction of 
      D^{*\pm} mesons originating from the D_{s1}^{\pm} meson decays has 
      been determined. The measured fraction has been converted to the rate 
      of c quarks hadronizing as D_{s1}^+ meson, f(c -> D_{s1}^+). The 
      results are compared with those obtained from e^+e^- annihilations.
