       Measurement of event-shape variables in neutral current DIS at HERA

                                    Abstract


    Event-shape variables in the current region of the Breit frame
have been measured in deep inelastic ep scattering with the ZEUS
detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 40 pb^-1.  The
variables thrust, jet broadening, invariant mass and the C parameter
have been measured over the kinematic range 6 10^-4 < x < 0.8 and 10 <
Q^2 < 40000 GeV^2.  A comparison of the mean values of these
distributions as a function of mean Q with NLO QCD predictions allows
a test of the validity of the power-correction approach.
