DESY ZEUS/F1 group detector R&D
Vertex Detector R&D
The group is actively participating in R&D for a future vertex
detector for a linear collider. The extremely well defined
interaction point of the linear collider warrants a vertex
detector of unprecedented performance. R&D in the group
centers around questions related to the socalled "MAPS"
(monolithic active pixel sensor) technology. MAPS is one of a
few different approaches that promise to provide the required
performance. The major activity of the group is through the EU
project
EUDET. In
this context the group participates in building a very fast
and precise pixel beam telescope.
Additional resesearch relates to cooling of the detector, mechanical support and overall system optimization using physics simulations. .
MAPS devices have been pioneered at IRES in Strasbourg/FRANCE. Work on MAPS sensors within the group is going on in close collaboration with the IRES group and within the global linear collider detector R&D program.
